Heroe’s Square
One of the most famous landmarks of Budapest and the “foyer” of Városliget, the Heroes’ Square (Hősök tere) is found at the end of Andrássy Avenue. The square was built for the millennial celebrations of 1896, to commemorate the first 1000 years Hungary’s statehood. Right across from Mirage Medic Hotel, you will also find the Museum of Fine Arts and Kunsthalle on the two sides of Heroe’s squres.
Andrássy Avenue
Andrássy Avenue is the Hungarian Champs-Élysées. Underneath the widest and most elegant street in Budapest runs the Millennium Underground line. The whole area has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Andrássy Avenue is divided into four parts. The section between Erzsébet Square and Oktogon is dominated by world-famous luxury brands. In addition to haute-couture parlours, you’ll also find the Opera, the “Broadway of Pest”, Liszt Ferenc Square, and the Paris Department Store here.
Széchenyi Spa
The second deepest well of Budapest, Széchenyi Thermal spa’s water comes to the surface from a depth of 1246 meters, at a temperature of 76 °C. Guests can choose from 21 pools ranging from temperatures of 18 °C to 42 °C. The thermal water rich in minerals has various medicinal and healing properties.
City Park
City Park (Városliget) is a public park in Budapest close to the city centre. Its main entrance is from Heroes’ Square (Hősök tere). The park has a lake that turns into a large ice-skating rink in the winter and boating area in the summer. Various events, music and food festivals are hosted year-round inside the area.
Vajdahunyad castle
Vajdahunyad Castle is a landmark castle in Budapest, built in Romantic style. It is located in the City Park by the boating lake / skating rink. The castle, despite all appearances, was built in 1896 is home of several festivals, concerts and the exhibitions of the Hungarian Agricultural Museum.
Budapest Zoo and Botanical garden
Budapest Zoo & Botanical Garden (Hungarian: Fővárosi Állat- és Növénykert) is the oldest zoo park in Hungary and one of the oldest in the world. It has 1,072 animal species and is located within Városliget Park, in the city centre. The zoo opened its doors on 9 August 1866. The area is a nature reserve, and has some valuable art nouveau buildings designed by Kornél Neuschloss and Károly Kós . More than 1,000 species are living there. The most special animals that are present in the zoo are the Komodo dragon and from December 2011 the wombat.
56’s square
The 56’s square, previously known as Processions Square runs along Dózsa György Avenue, along the edge of city park. The 1956 revolution toppled the Stalin statue that was originally located at this square. Under the Hungarian People’s Republic, state masses and military parades were conducted here.
Hungarian State Opera House
The Hungarian State Opera House is a neo-Renaissance opera house located in central Budapest, on Andrássy út. It was designed by Miklós Ybl, a major figure of 19th century Hungarian architecture. Construction began in 1875, funded by the city of Budapest and by Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria-Hungary, and the new house opened to the public on the 27 September 1884. Today, the opera house is home to the Budapest Opera Ball, a society event dating back to 1886.
City Park Ice Rink
11 December 1876 could take possession of the Budapest audience in the City Park Skating Rink and the first designed by Odon Lechner melegedőházat. At the beginning of his youth in Budapest it is one of my favorite entertainment, the capital of intergenerational experiences growing up in the City Park skating. The track refurbishment unfortunately – despite the initial promise – this winter has not yet been completed, but if the plans are met, once Europe famous attractions and experience will be an ice rink next to the Heroes’ Square.
